ASES uses chains to deter pirates

The hydraulically-operated mechanical anti ship entry system (ASES) is made up of five components and weighs 800kg-1,200kg. The system consists of a swivel boom with a chain wheel rotor head, rotationally damped, attached to the hydraulic motor shaft. By means of the contra-rotating high speed chain wheels, and the number of chains used, an almost impenetrable chain wall is produced.
