Broadband enables vessel and container monitoring

Growing competition in container lines has led to more container shipowners monitoring vessel performance and equipment from shore bases. Some boxship operators are installing sensors on vessels to monitor their trim, fuel consumption and machinery condition. The deployment of broadband satellite communications means this data can be transferred to fleet managers in their offices. Many vessel operators, such as AP Möller-Maersk and Pacific International Lines (PIL) are installing Inmarsat ....
