Discharge regulations are set to tighten

Legislation is tightening on sewage discharged from ships, and further restrictions are likely to follow, making conventional sewage treatment systems potentially unviable New global regulations due to be in place from January 2010 will cut permissible sewage discharge levels from ships quite significantly. IMO’s existing Marpol Convention (Annex IV) demands that discharges of total suspended solids are limited to 50 mg/litre within 12 miles of shore, or 100 mg/litre at sea. Faecal colifo....
