Duct boosts business for Becker

The largest-ever Becker Mewis duct was recently delivered by Becker Marine Systems for a VLCC building at Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries for Samco Shipholding. The 8.1m-diameter energy-saving duct was specified for a series of four VLCCs from the yard for the Singapore-based customer. Initial sea trials of the VLCC reportedly demonstrated fuel savings of around 5 per cent, equivalent to an annual reduction in carbon dioxide emissions of 2,800 tonnes.
