Adjusting to ‘fundamental changes in the market’ and the need to stay competitive, Wärtsilä plans to reduce its manufacturing capacity in Europe and move most auxiliary engine and propeller production to China. W20 diesel genset production at Vaasa in Finland will be wholly switched to the group’s specialist Chinese plant, and propeller production at Drunen in The Netherlands will shut down.
