Greeks are retreating from newbuildings for now

Greek-domiciled owners are far and away the biggest investors in newbuildings. The order backlog currently stands at 157 vessels aggregating slightly over 19.68 million dwt, showing a dramatic fall from a year ago when the respective totals were 248 totalling slightly below 28.8 million dwt. The respective newbuilding investment total is US$9.7 billion, down from US$16.15 billion a year ago. Some cancellations occurred, but mostly owners preferred to opt for vessel type changes, notably LNG. Som....
