Hawaii Superferry files for bankruptcy

Hawaii Superferry, which initiated a new short-lived ferry service for cars and passengers between Hawaii’s Oahu and Maui islands, using purpose-built Austal high speed catamarans, has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in the US. The company claimed this was made necessary by a Hawaii Supreme Court ruling in March that struck down a state law permitting the company to operate before completing an environmental impact statement.
