For many years the Dubai drydocks, operated by Drydocks World Dubai (DWD), and ASRY in Bahrain were the only two locations in the Middle East really suitable for large tanker repair and maintenance work. But in the past 18 months this situation changed: two new yards capable of handling VLCCs have opened in the region.
