Offshore test centre will have unique range of facilities

August saw completion of the structure for a 100m-blade test facility at the National Renewable Energy Centre which, it is claimed, will enable the UK to lead the world in testing blades for offshore wind turbines. In addition to the new blade test facility, a 15 megawatt (MW) turbine drive train facility is approaching completion, and work is underway to find industry partners for a 99MW offshore wind demonstrator site off the coast of Blyth, Northumberland.
