US-based Electro-Motive Diesel (EMD) is the only remaining exponent of the two-stroke principle for trunk piston medium speed engines in marine and offshore markets, maintaining a breed that once embraced Polar, Nohab, Sulzer and Wichmann, amongst other designs. EMD’s current 710G Series is offered in V8, 12, 16 and 20-cylinder variants to cover an output band from around 1,250kW at 720/750 rpm to 3,730kW at 900 rpm.
