Upgrade options offer energy efficiency

IMO’s Ship Energy Efficiency Management Plan (SEEMP) has three recommendations for propellers and one cautionary note. Advances in propeller design have made it possible to retrofit new models to deliver greater fuel economy. Fins and nozzles can also improve fuel efficiency, while cleaning, polishing and coating may also lead to significant efficiency gains.
