Aker-built tankers to transport Alaskan oil

Aker Philadelphia Shipyard (APSI) has begun building the first of two Aframax tankers for Exxon Mobil’s US shipping affiliate, SeaRiver Maritime. Construction of the 820ft-long vessels, which will each be capable of carrying 115,000 tonnes of crude oil, is scheduled to be completed by 2014. The shipyard is also building two 46,000 dwt product tankers for delivery in late 2012 and early 2013, respectively. These are said to be being built in co-operation with South Korea’s Samsung H....
