CCR4 standard drives owner’s decision to embrace LNG

By 2016 all inland barges sailing in European waters must comply with new CCR4 emission standards issued by the Central Commission for the Navigation of the Rhine. These set lower limits for SOx, NOx and particulate emissions. For the owner/operator there are basically two options: specification of an after-treatment solution, such as soot filters and catalytic converters, or installation of engines that burn cleaner fuels.
