Data usage up 180 per cent on MCP-supplied cruise ships

The increase in data usage on Maritime Communications Partner (MCP)-equipped cruise ships in 2011 was 180 per cent, with growth over the last three years of 500 per cent, according to Ole-Kristian Sivertsen, senior vice president of business development and sales, MCP. “Today, data traffic accounts for more than 50 per cent of the mobile revenue streams for our cruise line customers.” Wireless networks are going to have to cater for our addiction to data in the future.
