The engineering firm CB&I has been involved in the LNG industry from the very start of the international trade in LNG. In 1958 the company designed and constructed the first double-wall LNG storage tanks at both Canvey Island in the UK and Lake Charles in Louisiana on the US Gulf coast. The voyage of the Methane Pioneer in early 1959 from Lake Charles to Canvey Island was the first transocean shipment of LNG.
