Piracy threat continues

In 2011 the ICC International Maritime Bureau (IMB) Piracy Reporting Centre reported 438 incidents of piracy and armed robbery, over half of which were perpetrated by Somali pirates. While the overall number of incidents attributable to Somali pirates increased from 219 in 2010 to 237 in 2011, the number of successful hijackings decreased from 49 to 28. The east and south coast of Somalia including the Arabian Sea has recorded 160 attacks; the Gulf of Aden, 37; the southern Red Sea, 39; and Oma....
