As this launch issue of Container Shipping & Trade goes to press, the embers of container shipping’s latest tragedy continue to smoulder off the western coast of the British Isles. The MSC Flaminia was en route from Charleston to Antwerp in mid-July when a fire broke out in one of the containers in its number four hold, causing the deaths of two crew members and the abandoning of ship by the remaining crew and officers.
