The deadlines for mandatory installation of ballast water treatment plant (BWT) are drawing inexorably closer.
BWT plant will typically be the second most expensive item of installed equipment on board a vessel. Specify the wrong system and your vessel, or even fleet, will not be able to trade.
Recognising this – and following an overwhelming response to the first event in September 2010 – Riviera Maritime Media organised a follow-up ballast water treatment conference which, due to delegate feedback, was planned to coincide with the IMO MEPC 62 meeting held in London during the week of 11 July. The second Ballast Water Treatment Technology Conference was fully focused on providing operators with the information they need to select the most appropriate long-term solution for their fleet as the IMO Ballast Water Convention approaches entry into force.
Equipment manufacturers have marketing systems that they say are suitable for any vessel. But how dirty, cold or sweet can the water get before systems need add-ons to function optimally? How much maintenance and crew intervention will be required? Will your vessel be the real testing ground for treatment technologies that could become obsolete?
These and other key questions were rigorously analysed by regulators, manufacturers and owners across the two days.
In common with all Riviera Maritime Media events, the programme content for the London event and the third Ballast Water Treatment Technology Conference taking place in Hamburg in October, will be guided by industry experts at the sharp end, and feature the speakers you as an industry want to hear. Built into the programme are outstanding networking opportunities, and a supporting exhibition to allow those attending to maximise the event’s business potential and come away with meaningful insights that they can practically apply to their businesses.
The third Ballast Water Treatment Technology Conference is taking place in Hamburg on 27 - 28 October.
The London 2011 event attracted 127 delegates from 24 countries, including 35 shipowner/operator representatives.
