“Very well organised, very credible speakers, overall well done” Krishna Arjun Raju, Navig8 Shipmanagement
With the International Convention for the Control and Management of Ships’ Ballast Water and Sediments still to be ratified, Riviera Maritime Media is continuing its series of Ballast Water Treatment Technology Conferences.
With the US Coast Guard issuing its Final Rules in March 2012, with which shipowners operating in US waters have to comply, the conference in Houston was strategically located for shipowners operating in North America to gather the latest information enabling them to make the necessary decisions for their ships.
The fifth event in the series and the first in North America, Ballast Water Treatment Technology Conference Houston took an in-depth look at the challenges facing shipowners including cost of compliance; system selection; when, where, how to install; in-service performance and reliability; testing and compliance; exemptions and fresh water issues affecting inland waterways such as the Great Lakes.
The programme was enhanced with structured 'spotlight' sessions, one focusing on high profile shipowners/operators and their perspectives and experiences on all facets of ballast water management, and another focusing on the suppliers of different types of BWM systems. The Houston programme also included the ever popular round table session which provided a platform for an open exchange of views on in-service issues and operational experiences.
Over 500 industry professionals have attended the four events previously held in London and Hamburg since 2010.
The conference reflects the quality of the Ballast Water Treatment Technology Guide, published by Riviera Maritime Media. Now in its fourth year, this annual publication gives its readers an overview of current legislation as well as the technology from which shipowners, managers, naval architects, marine engineers and shipyards can make the right choices. This will be reflected at the Ballast Water Treatment Technology Conferences where attendees have an unrivalled opportunity to come away from the events with a better understanding of the challenges and the solutions . Be sure you're in the audience and have your say on the matters that you feel strongly about.
