The second Ballast Water Treatment Technology Conference in London in July highlighted how many issues remain unresolved - click here for the conference review. The questions have been asked, and Riviera’s third event in the series, held in partnership with Wärtsilä on 27 and 28 October in Hamburg, concentrated on answers. The second event was held just before MEPC 62, so the third event will analyse progress since then on issues such as finalisation of the port state control regime, sampling and analysis protocols, smaller organisms, allowances for cold and fresh water conditions, and the availability of technologies for all ship types that the International Convention for the Control and Management of Ships' Ballast Water and Sediments, 2004 applies to. The London 2011 event attracted 127 delegates from 24 countries, including 35 shipowner/operator representatives.
The third Ballast Water Treatment Technology Conference programme was developed with advice from a panel of industry experts to offer shipowners the opportunity to consider the facts and choose when to act.
