P&O Maritime Logistics has appointed a new chief executive to drive growth in its core businesses – offshore support, port services and maritime logistics
Martin Helweg has been promoted into the chief executive officer role following reorganisation of the tug and offshore support vessel-owning group. As the group is owned by DP World, Mr Helwig will report to DP World’s chief operating officer for logistics and technology, Mike Bhaskaran.
P&O Maritime Logistics was formed when DP World acquired Topaz Energy and Marine and merged this with its port services brand P&O Maritime in 2019. Mr Helweg replaces Rene Kofod-Olsen, who was chief executive of Topaz Energy and Marine, and managed its transition and merger with P&O Maritime.
For the past three years, Mr Helweg has been responsible for Topaz Energy and Marine’s and P&O Maritime Logistics’ global operations.
DP World chairman and chief executive Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem expects growth from this port and offshore services subsidiary. “I am confident that Martin will lead P&O Maritime Logistics into the next stage of growth as part of DP World,” he said. “This will strengthen the P&O brand, which has more than 180 years of maritime history. P&O Maritime Logistics will continue to innovate to offer our customers a wide portfolio of services,” said Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem.
P&O Maritime’s core focus is to further optimise offshore logistics for energy companies and to provide port services worldwide through adopting digitalisation technologies across its fleets of offshore support vessels and port tugs.
“P&O Maritime Logistics is uniquely positioned in the maritime logistics industry to reshape the market,” said Mr Helweg. “DP World affords us global reach and strength and allows increased investments in the fleet and in technology and innovation.”
He looks forward to building the business profile and “strengthening relationships with key customers and partners.”
Mr Helweg’s team presented their technology adoption, industry leadership and future strategies at Riviera Maritime Media’s Annual Offshore Support Journal Conference in London in February.
Prior to his time with Topaz Energy and Marine, Mr Helweg spent more than 15 years in marine service solutions working for Svitzer in regional financial officer and chief executive roles across the Americas, Europe, the Middle East and Asia.
P&O Maritime will be speaking Riviera’s Offshore Support Journal Middle East Conference in Dubai on 8-9 June.
