Rimorchiatori Riuniti has again expanded its fleet in Italy with a harbour tug built in Turkey
New azimuth stern drive (ASD) tug Arechi is operated by its subsidiary Rimorchiatori Salerno. It was built by Sanmar Shipyards in Turkey as part of its Bogacay series, which is engineered from a Robert Allan RAmparts 2400SX design.
Arechi has 60 tonnes of bollard pull for harbour and coastal towage and a fire-fighting system for emergency response.
It has two Caterpillar CAT 3512C engines, delivering a combined 3,530 kW of power coupled to a pair of Kongsberg US 205 fixed pitch thrusters.
Arechi joins a similar Bogacay-class tug, Città di Salerno, to manoeuvre ships in Salerno port in south west Italy.
Both tugs have overall lengths of 24.4 m and breadth of 11.25 m.
Rimorchiatori Salerno president Alberto Dellepiane said the tugs’ design is suited to ship handling in Salerno harbour.
“Arechi is a newly built RAmparts 2400SX ASD sister vessel of Città di Salerno, which has operated in Salerno since January 2018,” he said.
“These tugs are small, compact and powerful, ideal for a port like Salerno. We are very satisfied with the price/quality ratio of Sanmar tugboats,” said Mr Dellepiane.
Rimorchiatori Salerno has operated tugs in the port since 1993. It operates a fleet of three ASD tugs and two tractor tugs for ship manoeuvring and dockings.
Salerno’s port is south of Naples and is a hub for ferries and cruise ships.
Rimorchiatori Riuniti has continued to expand its Italian-wide fleet this year with a new tug delivered in Q1 2020.
Z-drive tractor tug Italia was also built by Sanmar to a Robert Allan design and was mobilised to Genoa to conduct ship escorting and manoeuvring at terminals in the port.
