Thome Group has successfully completed stage one of the development of the newly opened fleet operations hub
Speaking at the Connecticut Maritime Association (CMA) conference in Stamford, USA, Thome Group vice president, business development Gautam Kashyap said that the company has successfully completed stage one of the development of the newly opened fleet operations hub.
Mr Kashyap was taking part in the panel discussion concerning how businesses managed the risks brought about by change, which was the key theme at this year’s CMA conference.
The fleet operations hub was opened in Singapore in November last year. The state-of-the-art facility enables situational awareness for both duty-personnel and Thome’s crisis teams, providing high-tech systems allowing remote tracking of individual ships in the fleet.
The hub is being developed in three stages, and Mr Kashyap was pleased with the progress. “We have a three-year plan and we are now at the end of stage one”, he said. “Altogether it should take three years to get to stage three.”
Mr Kashyap noted that such a facility is a significant investment. As an engine of change, it will drive customers toward the large-scale ship management companies that have such a facility and differentiate their product from that of the smaller ship management companies.
The Thome facility is designed to be used in crisis management situations, but is also equipped for passage planning, security risk assessment, weather routeing, video conferencing, integrated vessel management system implementation and individual onboard CCTV remote monitoring.
It is literally the hub of the fleet data, and on the tanker side can be used in the vetting process. The Thome Group will be discussing how it handles the all-important vetting management process at the forthcoming Asian Tanker Conference in Singapore.
