Ship manager Anglo-Eastern and technology company Wärtsilä have agreed a contract to digitalise Anglo-Eastern’s fleet operations
Wärtsilä’s Fleet Operations Solution (FOS) technology will be used across Anglo-Eastern’s fleet of some 600 vessels to support voyage planning and execution, as well as engine performance and fuel efficiency monitoring.
Anglo-Eastern chief executive Capt Bjorn Hojgaard said of the venture, “We are keen to leverage the advantages of the latest digital solutions to maximise the efficiency of our voyages and the performance of our fleet. Realising the opportunities made possible by Wärtsilä’s FOS, we look forward to contributing to the further development of the solution as an early adopter.”
FOS integrates individual processes that are otherwise independent of each other to optimise the planning, weather routeing, fuel consumption, and speed of a vessel. It helps facilitate ship-to-shore reporting and fleet performance management to reduce fuel consumption, taking into consideration charter party compliance, speed management and hull, propeller and engine condition.
Anglo-Eastern’s managing director of QHSE and Training, Capt Pradeep Chawla added, “We believe that the Wärtsilä Fleet Operations Solution will further increase ship navigational safety, reduce crew workload and improve fuel efficiency."
Wärtsilä’s FOS operates a platform that integrates with a ship’s planning station and ECDIS, integrating cloud computing, machine learning, data analytics and onboard/onshore mobile applications.
Commenting on the partnership, Wärtsilä Voyage Solutions/Transas managing director Torsten Bûssow said “We are excited to be bringing these benefits to the 600-vessel Anglo-Eastern fleet over the coming 12 months.”
Anglo-Eastern has more than 600 vessels under full technical management and more than 200 others under crew management. Its managed fleet includes bulk carriers, container ships and tankers.
Wärtsilä launches predictive maintenance product
Separately, Wärtsilä has launched Expert Insight, a digital product that enables customer support to be delivered by Wärtsilä Expertise Centres to ensure long-term accurate insight for their predictive maintenance strategies.
Expert Insight leverages AI and advanced diagnostics to monitor equipment and systems in real-time. When anomalous behaviour is detected, it is flagged to specialists at Wärtsilä’s Expertise Centres who work to resolve the issue at hand.
