To receive a Marine Propulsion Award is to achieve an industry pinnacle.


The Annual Marine Propulsion Awards have long been a benchmark for outstanding performance. Even a nomination delivers a major boost for a company’s profile and business opportunities.


There are five categories planned which will recognise individuals, projects, organisations and technologies that have made an outstanding contribution to the sector since May 2019, the date of the last Marine Propulsion Awards.


These are:

  • Emissions Reduction
  • Fleet Performance/Optimisation
  • Hybrid, Electric & Fuel Cells
  • Innovation/Start-up
  • Ship of the Year

Nomination will open in January 2021, these will be open for two months before shortlists are drawn up by our senior editors in consultation with an industry advisory panel.


Our audiences will then have an opportunity to vote for their favourites,
with the winners announced at a gala dinner in Amsterdam, taking place alongside the Maritime Air Pollution Conference, Europe, 2021

There are five categories open to voting which recognise individuals, projects, organisations and technologies that have made an outstanding contribution to the sector since May 2019, the date of the last Marine Propulsion Awards. The Industry Leader Award 2021 is chosen by the Riviera editorial team.

Emissions Reduction Award 2021

Awarded to a company, marine project or product that can evidence it has made a significant contribution to reducing maritime air pollution since May 2019.

 

Judging criteria:

  • Innovation: the nomination has introduced a new or leading-edge approach to reducing maritime air pollution.
  • Measurable success: demonstrate quantifiable results since May 2019.
  • Customer satisfaction: can produce testimonials that attest to its success in reducing maritime air pollution.
  • Spin-off benefits: additional benefits that the nominee has been able to bring about in the drive to reduce maritime air pollution / elevate marine propulsion.
  • Entrants should provide a maximum 500-word explanation for how they meet each of these four criteria, plus a maximum 250-word summary of why they believe their product or service should win this award.
  • Requested format: each submission requires four sections detailing achievements against each of the four criteria above (up to 500 words each), plus the summary statement (up to 250 words).
  • A company/project product overview should also be included. This does not count as part of the wordcounts or sections. Credit is given for each section, so all sections must be completed.

Fleet Safety Award 2021

Awarded to a company, project or product that can evidence how they have made a significant contribution to fleet safety since May 2019.

 

Judging criteria:

  • Innovation: the nomination has introduced a new or leading-edge approach to enhancing fleet safety.
  • Measurable success: demonstrate quantifiable results since May 2019.
  • Customer satisfaction: can produce testimonials that attest to its success in enhancing fleet safety.
  • Spin-off benefits: additional benefits that the nominee has been able to bring about in the drive to enhance fleet safety / elevate marine propulsion.
  • Entrants should provide a maximum 500-word explanation for how they meet each of these four criteria, plus a maximum 250-word summary of why they believe their product or service should win this award.
  • Requested format: each submission requires four sections detailing achievements against each of the four criteria above (up to 500 words each), plus the summary statement (up to 250 words).
  • A company/project product overview should also be included. This does not count as part of the word counts or sections. Credit is given for each section, so all sections must be completed.

Hybrid & Electric Award 2021

Awarded to a company, project or product that can evidence how it has made a significant contribution to advancing hybrid and electric technology since May 2019.

 

Judging criteria:

  • Innovation: the nomination has introduced a new or leading-edge approach to advancing hybrid and electric technology.
  • Measurable success: demonstrate quantifiable results since May 2019.
  • Customer satisfaction: can produce testimonials that attest to its success in advancing hybrid and electric technology.
  • Spin-off benefits: additional benefits that the nominee has been able to bring about in the drive to advance hybrid and electric technology / elevate marine propulsion.
  • Entrants should provide a maximum 500-word explanation for how they meet each of these four criteria, plus a maximum 250-word summary of why they believe their product or service should win this award.
  • Requested format: each submission requires four sections detailing achievements against each of the four criteria above (up to 500 words each), plus the summary statement (up to 250 words).

Innovation Award 2021

Awarded to a company, project or product that can evidence how it has innovated to solve a particular marine propulsion operational, technical and/or regulatory challenge since May 2019.

 

Judging criteria:

  • Innovation: the nomination has introduced a new or leading-edge approach to advancing marine propulsion.
  • Measurable success: demonstrate quantifiable results since May 2019.
  • Customer satisfaction: can produce testimonials that attest to its success in advancing marine propulsion.
  • Spin-off benefits: additional benefits that the nominee has been able to bring about in the drive innovation / elevate marine propulsion.
  • Entrants should provide a maximum 500-word explanation for how they meet each of these four criteria, plus a maximum 250-word summary of why they believe their product or service should win this award.
  • Requested format: Each submission requires four sections detailing achievements against each of the four criteria above (up to 500 words each), plus the summary statement (up to 250 words).
  • A company/project product overview should also be included. This does not count as part of the word counts or sections. Credit is given for each section, so all sections must be completed.

Ship Optimisation Award 2021

Awarded to a company, project or product that can evidence how it has led to optimised vessel performance in relation to operational, technical and/or regulatory marine propulsion challenge/s since May 2019.

 

Judging criteria:

  • Innovation: the nomination has introduced a new or leading-edge approach to optimised vessel performance from a marine propulsion standpoint.
  • Measurable success: demonstrate quantifiable results since May 2019.
  • Customer satisfaction: can produce testimonials that attest to its success in vessel optimisation.
  • Spin-off benefits: additional benefits that the nominee has been able to bring about in the drive to advance vessel optimisation / elevate marine propulsion.
  • Entrants should provide a maximum 500-word explanation for how they meet each of these five criteria, plus a maximum 250-word summary of why they believe their product or service should win this award.
  • Requested format: each submission requires five sections detailing achievements against each of the five criteria above (up to 500 words each), plus the summary statement (up to 250 words).
  • A company/project product overview should also be included. This does not count as part of the word counts or sections. Credit is given for each section, so all sections must be completed.


Ship of the Year Award 2021

Recognises a vessel delivered since May 2019 that when in service has set new benchmarks in marine propulsion.

 

Judging criteria:

  • Innovation: the nomination has introduced a new or leading-edge approach to marine propulsion.
  • Measurable success: demonstrate quantifiable results since May 2019.
  • Customer satisfaction: can produce testimonials that attest to its success in advancing marine propulsion .
  • Spin-off benefits: additional benefits that the nominee has been able to bring about in the drive to advance / elevate marine propulsion.
  • Entrants should provide a maximum 500-word explanation for how they meet each of these four criteria, plus a maximum 250-word summary of why they believe their product or service should win this award.
  • Requested format: Each submission requires four sections detailing achievements against each of the four criteria above (up to 500 words each), plus the summary statement (up to 250 words).

Industry Leader Award 2021

Recognises an individual who since May 2019 has demonstrated outstanding leadership and set new industry standards in relation to maritime operations, technical performance or regulatory challenges. Chosen by the Riviera editorial team.

Judging criteria:

  • Professionalism: has consistently met or exceeded challenging objectives and in doing so exemplifies the highest personal, professional and ethical standards.
  • Success: has delivered quantifiable results that enhance the industry and its standing in wider society.
  • Entrants should provide a maximum 500-word explanation for how their nomination meets the criteria plus a maximum 250-word summary of why they believe their nomination should win this award.
  • Requested format: Each submission requires two sections detailing achievements against each of the criteria above (up to 500 words each), plus the summary statement (up to 250 words).
  • Credit is given for each section, so all sections must be completed.
