Equinor has completed the acquisition from Polenergia of a 50% interest in the Bałtyk I offshore wind project in Poland
The company now has an interest in all three Bałtyk offshore wind development projects, Bałtyk 1, Bałtyk II and Bałtyk III.
Equinor senior vice president business development new energy solutions Jens Økland said, “Acquisition of Bałtyk I will strengthen our presence in the Baltic.
“With an interest in all three projects we have the opportunity to build scale and value in what we see as an important region.”
The licence for Bałtyk I allows for the development of an offshore windfarm of up to 1.56 GW, of which Equinor will hold 50%. The company will also manage construction preparation and construction and operation should the project proceed.
In 2018 Equinor acquired a 50% interest in the Bałtyk II and Bałtyk III projects, which have a combined capacity of 1.44 GW. Later that year, the company decided to exercise an option to acquire a 50% interest in Bałtyk I, a deal that is now completed.
The windfarm is in the Baltic in water depths of 25-35 m approximately 80 km from the port of Łeba.
