With sustainability becoming a key issue for charterers and investors, US-based OSV owner SEACOR Marine Holdings plans to drive its sustainable strategies further by forming an internal committee to oversee its enhanced environmental, social and governance (ESG) programme
SEACOR Marine, with one of the largest fleets of battery-hybrid platform supply vessels in the world, has formed a sustainability council. The internal committee will report to the board of directors’ nominating and corporate governance committee. Senior executives, operational heads, and safety and health, compliance and human resources professionals will reside on the sustainable council.
The council will collaborate and drive its initiatives on all matters related to sustainability, including environmental protection, clean energy technology, social responsibility, employee, contractor and community health and safety, and community empowerment. Together with the board, the sustainability council will help establish sustainability goals and integrate them into strategic and tactical business activities across SEACOR Marine to contribute to risk management and long-term value for stakeholders.
“As a company with a global reach and one that serves offshore energy, we recognise that sustainability has become a core focus for our customers, investors, employees, and the communities where we operate,” said SEACOR Marine chief executive John Gellert. Added Mr Gellert, “SEACOR Marine has a role to play in supporting sustainable practices, and we understand the importance of building upon our commitment to ensuring safe and reliable transportation services through an energy-efficient fleet.”
Mr Gellert said he looked forward to working with the other members of the sustainability council to implement “policies, strategies and innovative solutions that reduce our environmental footprint and promote positive impacts on the communities we serve.”
SEACOR Marine has been a leader in investing in battery-hybrid propulsion for its PSV fleet, and its offshore wind transportation unit, Windcat Workboats, is working with CMB.Tech to develop Hydrocat 1, a prototype CTV that utilises hydrogen-diesel co-combustion.
SEACOR Marine also announced it has received certification for ISO Environmental Management standard ISO 14001:2015 and Occupational Health and Safety Management standard ISO 45001:2018, expanding on its ISO 9001 certification.
