Tallink Grupp ferry to have eco upgrade

Passenger ship Silja Symphony will undergo scheduled drydocking at the BLRT Grupp shipyard in Klaipėda, Lithuania this month.

Key automation and navigation systems will be upgraded, including the Kongsberg EcoPower control system, which is designed to improve fuel efficiency, reduce emissions and support safe operations.

A statement by Tallink Grupp on LinkedIn said, “Alongside technical upgrades, regular maintenance of underwater parts and other systems will ensure that Silja Symphony continues to deliver the high-quality, comfortable cruise experience our passengers expect.”

It added that "long-awaited" onboard wifi in cabins and public areas will be installed. “These investments help keep Silja Symphony in great shape and ready to serve passengers between Finland and Sweden for many years to come. The ship will return to its regular schedule on 29 January,” the post added. 

During Silja Symphony’s maintenance, its sister ship Silja Serenade will continue sailing between Helsinki and Stockholm according to the regular schedule, with departures from Helsinki on odd-numbered days and from Stockholm on even-numbered days.

BLRT Grupp is one of the largest industrial holdings in the Baltic Sea. It provides shipbuilding, ship repairing, steelwork manufacturing, metal product processing and sales, and mechanical engineering.
