Foundation and turbine installation specialist A2SEA has broken into the offshore wind market in Asia. In June 2016, A2SEA will play a key role installing two foundations and two turbines on the Formosa 1 offshore windfarm in Taiwan. The client is Swancor/Formosa Wind Power. The turbines to be installed are Siemens 4MW units.
The foundations and turbines will be installed by Torben, the former Friedrich Ernestine, which was owned by RWE. A2SEA will be responsible for management of the ship and operation of the vessel and will have its own crew on board. The two turbines are the first phase of the Formosa 1 project. The entire project will consist of 32 turbines, with the second phase being constructed in 2018/2019.
“We are very proud to be the first European offshore wind contractor to install turbines in Asia. A great part of the future of offshore wind lies in Asia and it is a very important step for the evolution and growth of our company,” said A2SEA ceo Jens Frederik Hansen.
