Kongsberg Digital has signed a contract with ABB Turbocharging enabling exchange of vessel data across cloud-based platforms for edge data collection and ship engine performance analysis
The agreement will enable ABB to use Kongsberg’s Vessel Insight data infrastructure platform. It will be used as an additional data infrastructure service for ABB Turbocharging’s digital services.
ABB said the exchange of data between cloud platforms is “fundamental” in enabling remote diagnostics on vessel engines and the company has recently introduced a continuous performance evaluation functionality in its Ability Tekomar Xpert advisory software for engines to allow time series engine data to be transferred between platforms.
Vice President Digital Customer Solutions, Cristian Corotto called the partnership a “simple and valuable choice” towards operational transparency and further digitalisation. Mr Corotto said ABB’s goal is to “empower ship owners and operators to extract the maximum value from their engine data”.
Kongsberg Digital’s president Hege Skryseth said “Partnerships between major players are key in bringing about high value digital solutions to the maritime sector at a lower cost and faster pace. With Kongsberg Digital and ABB Turbocharging working together to increase the value offering to customers, we can deliver an even more attractive return on investment to vessel owners and operators.”
Both Vessel Insight and Tekomar Xpert exist as independent systems with the ability to integrate with other data sources or share data with other parties. Vessel Insight runs on Kongsberg’s in-house Kognifai ecosystem to give owners access to low cost data to help benchmark their fleet. Tekomar Xpert is an engine performance analytics software.
ABB said that the combined package works seamlessly and comes tailor-made for each ship, applying high cyber security standards so customers can benefit from a fully automated engine performance diagnostics system. The data can then be shared with other parties and OEMs to help generate more value.
The cooperation will focus on keeping projects as lean as possible and delivering results within short lead times.
The agreement was signed 21 August 2020 and enters into effect immediately.
In the week beginning Monday 7 September, we will be holding a series of daily webinars, each meticulously researched and organised in response to a Vessel Optimisation challenge, headache or opportunity. You can register to view here.
