Secure email and data transfer services will be rolled out to fleets of ships across Asia following an UK-China agreement.
China-based Marinesat has become a value-added reseller of UK-headquartered GTMaritime, which provides email, antivirus protection and data transmissions to shipping over satellite communications.
This agreement is GTMaritime’s first partnership within the Chinese market and opens access to other Asian markets for maritime-optimised communications solutions.
Marinesat has started to offer GTMaritime’s products as part of its communications and IT offering. The first vessels to use GTMaritime’s secure email and data transmission services through Marinesat were added in October.
Marinesat is the largest broadband satellite communications provider in China and currently provides VSAT services to 1,600 vessels in China. Marinesat vice general manager Josh Suo said agreements such as this strategic co-operation will enhance services for vessels in China and other Asian markets.
"Together we can provide more integrated maritime solutions for shipowners worldwide, thus realising our vision of the intelligent ocean service platform,” he said.
GTMaritime chief executive Robert Kenworthy welcomed the agreement as it enables products to be deployed in China.
