Digital platforms in two Belgian port communities are being integrated into one, combining various terminal and logistics applications
Port of Antwerp-Bruges, in Belgium, has passed another milestone in its digitalisation programme after gaining agreements with terminal operators and technology providers.
Shareholders in Port of Antwerp-Bruges, West Flanders Development Agency, RX/SeaPort and Association Port of Zeebrugge Interests (APZI) have agreed to integrate the digital platforms RX/SeaPort and NxtPort.
Under an integrated platform, customs export, import and transit processes, and co-ordination will now happen throughout the entire port community in both Antwerp and Zeebrugge, avoiding parallel digital solutions being used for the same processes and supporting investment in more advanced online tools for shared applications.
This collaboration will seek feedback from the private port community and prioritise the roadmap of the digital platform.
Following the agreement, the operational management and technical maintenance of the existing functionalities will be integrated into the operations of the new company, RX/NxtPort.
“By bringing RX/SeaPort and NxtPort closer together, we are taking an important step towards an integrated digital chain,” said Port of Antwerp-Bruges chief customer relations officer, William Demoor.
“This first step is essential within our ambitions to meet the needs for digitalising the entire supply chain,” he said.
“The opportunity is significant, with the impact reaching beyond the borders of our port.”
Integrating the digital platforms will ensure that specific RX roro and ferry applications for current users will continue, and related applications will evolve.
“By joining forces, we create the scale and investment power needed to realise our digital ambitions,” said APZI chair Marc Adriansens.
“This is how we are building a smart port that not only innovates but also contributes to the success of its customers.”
