MHI Vestas, Jan De Nul Group and developer Parkwind have installed the final turbine on the Northwester 2 offshore windfarm in Belgium
The 219-MW project in the Belgian sector of the North Sea is the first to use the OEM’s V164-9.5 MW turbine.
Installation work started in December 2019. After a good start, what the companies described as “exceptionally adverse weather” slowed the pace of the installation work and a second installation vessel, Seajacks Scylla, was brought in in mid-March to operate in parallel with Jan De Nul’s Vole au vent.
The project partners also had to contend with, and overcome, challenges associated with completing the project during the coronavirus pandemic.
MHI Vestas has a 15-year service agreement at Northwester 2 to maintain the V164-9.5 MW turbines.
