Anna Angelicoussis group steps up fleet renewal across bulker and tanker segments

The group’s dry bulk arm, Alpha Bulkers, has sold its oldest vessel, 2007-built Panamax Alpha Loyalty. Shipbrokers report that the ship changed hands for just over US$10M.

This marks the second sale of an older bulker by the owner this year. Riviera previously reported on 2002-built Alpha Melody, which has since been renamed and now trades under Chinese ownership.

The fleet’s next-oldest vessels are Capesize bulkers Antonis Angelicoussis and Alpha Faith, built in 2007 and 2008, respectively.

The disposals coincide with fleet growth. Alpha Bulkers recently took delivery of two super-eco Ultramax bulk carriers from COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry (Zhoushan).

According to its website, the company currently operates a fleet of 34 bulk carriers.

Riviera understands that Alpha Bulkers remains active in the sale and purchase market, seeking modern secondhand vessels rather than newbuildings, which it considers still overpriced. Ultramax and Kamsarmax bulkers are reportedly the most attractive candidates at present.

Tanker additions

Meanwhile, Pantheon Tankers, which manages the group’s crude and product carriers, has expanded its fleet with two new Aframaxes.

COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry recently delivered 114,000-dwt Sea Whale and Sea Penguin, both of which are already sailing under the Greek flag.

“This achievement marks another important milestone in our fleet expansion and commitment to operational excellence,” Pantheon Tankers said in a social media post.

Pantheon now lists a fleet of 46 tankers, including vessels under construction in Chinese and South Korean shipyards.

Family legacy

Anna Angelicoussis comanaged the family’s fleet with her late brother John Angelicoussis until 2001, when she established her own group, initially focused on bulk carriers before expanding into tankers and LNG carriers through Alpha Gas. Today, her sons Frangiskos and Antonis Kanellakis co-run the business.
