The joint Intertanko and OCIMF Tanker Accident Database is anonymous and run by a third party, but neither organisation has access to any identifiable data
The accident data is collected specifically for anonymous trending, benchmarking and root cause analysis.
To protect the anonymity of participating companies while collecting accident data, the Tanker Accident Database operates over a dual-system framework. The two independent systems, run over standalone networks, allow the data entered by a participating company to be stripped of identifiable attributes.
To ensure thorough compliance of data protection, the Tanker Accident Database incorporates a three-tier data protection model to safeguard the anonymity of each data provider.
The main aim of the Tanker Accident Database is to learn from accidents that have occurred, helping to prevent repeat accidents.
