Satellite communications hardware manufacturers have introduced new terminals and antennas for maritime L-band and VSAT connectivity
Intellian Technologies unveiled its maritime terminal for Iridium Certus 200 services at the SMM exhibition in Hamburg, Germany. This compact, lightweight C200 maritime terminal communicates with Iridium’s low-earth orbit (LEO) satellites worldwide providing low-latency links for vessels.
Intellian said C200 can fit on any vessel size, including unmanned surface vessels, to offer IP data speeds of up to 176 kbps in both directions. It enables multiple concurrent phone calls over three high-quality voice lines and has wifi and firewalls built in.
Applications include safety, bridge and crew welfare communications, connected ship networks, connectivity for remote engine monitoring and diagnostics, and situational awareness reporting.
Intellian featured the C200 terminal along with its 2022-introduced VSAT and TV receive-only antennas at its stand in SMM.
Cobham Satcom revealed its large 2.4-m multi-orbit, multi-band satellite antenna Sea Tel 2400 has been successfully tested on SES’s O3b medium earth orbit (MEO) constellation.
During testing, Sea Tel 2400 provided seamless multi-antenna connectivity across SES’s multi-orbit network of geostationary (GEO) and MEO satellites. It is also compatible with SES’s O3b mPower, a second-generation MEO constellation expected to deliver high throughput and low latency communications.
Sea Tel 2400 is a flexible 2.4-m VSAT antenna for communications with satellites in C, Ku and Ka bands. With seamless switching between these bands, it provides a choice of satellite capacity, bandwidth and speed and can be applied to maritime, cruise and offshore markets.
SES will launch O3b mPower satellites into MEO over the Equator this year, with further launches in 2023.
Speedcast unveiled a flat panel antenna which will communicate with Elon Musk’s Starlink LEO satellites and will test Starlink in maritime applications.
Along with other service providers, Speedcast is also testing OneWeb satellite communications in maritime and offshore applications. OneWeb plans to launch its maritime services in 2023.
KVH Industries introduced its new TracNet H-series satellite communications terminals H30, H60, and H90, to connect with the KVH One hybrid network, including Ku-band VSAT, LTE and 4G/5G networks.
