Nano-Care Deutschland, the producer of Liquid Guard, the 'wipe-on glass' structure has been nominated for the prestigious German Innovation Award 2019.
Liquid Guard is an anti-bacterial coating developed for hospitals by Leibniz-Institute for New Materials (INM) in Saarbrücken, Germany. The aim was to develop a third-generation ultra-thin coating, developed for transparent surface coatings (known as nano or ceramic coatings) as an alternative to PTFE and fluorocarbons.
In many aspects, the develop of ceramic coatings mirrors that of Selektope, which was developed from university level research before becoming an important commercial product and ingrediant in ship coatings.
Tanker Shipping & Trade is following the development of Nano-Care's Liquid Gaurd, which has the potential to form the next generation of hull and tank coatings. The company is developing a range of products with a focus on sustainability, innovation and co-operation, by supporting surface coating manufacturers, chemical distributors and other end-users of high-tech surface treatments.
The news that Nano-Care has been nominated for the German Innovation Award is seen as the next step on the road to wider applications.
