Bahri Ship Management (BSM) is investing in digitalisation and remote monitoring technologies on a fleet of tankers, aiming to save fuel and enable predictive maintenance
It has agreed to deploy Alpha Ori Technologies (AOT)’ SmartShip platform on 40 ships in its fleet. SmartShip is an internet of things (IoT) platform combined with edge computing and artificial intelligence (AI) to provide advanced analytics, operational insights and intelligent alerts in real time.
Bahri will implement this platform across navigation, cargo management and engine control systems on these ships.
This agreement comes two weeks after AOT announced it had deployed SmartShip on 100 ships in six months to January 2021, including on vessels operated by MOL Chemical Tankers. AOT expects to triple the number of ships its IoT platform will be deployed on in 2021.
“We endeavour to step up the digital roadmap for the shipping industry by delivering secure and sustainable solutions, optimising vessel performance, cost savings and reducing pain points,” said AOT co-chief executive Bala Sankaran. “We are confident Bahri will benefit from this partnership.”
AOT’s contract with Bahri to install SmartShip on 40 ships was finalised after a successful three-month trial on one of Bahri’s very large crude carriers.
SmartShip platform provides live connections with ship machinery and automation systems. It handles 3,000-5,000 data points on navigation, engineroom and cargo systems, flowing information to a central module.
This data is sent to AOT’s cloud facility at 30-second intervals, where machine-learning algorithms provide AI for vessel management, fuel savings and predictive maintenance.
SmartShip has online and mobile interfaces, enabling ship operators to visualise fleet data and customise reports. Managers can use applications for remote monitoring and diagnostics, a geographic location-based alarm system and provide charter-party dashboards.
Vessel and equipment monitoring technologies, IoT and AI applications will be discussed during Riviera’s series of virtual conferences and webinars during 2021 - use this link to access more details and register for these events
