An essential part of the ballast water management system's regime is the ability to test the results of the treatment.
As the number of ships equipped with ballast water treatment systems increases, so will the demand for testing services. This has already led to mergers and other opportunities for investors.
Ankron Water Services of Germany has posted the above before and after images after testing the ballast water on board a vessel in Eckernförde, Germany.
After a short voyage with a two-day holding time the discharge was sampled during the deballasting process.
This was the first of three consecutive test cycles on board.
Despite the challenging uptake conditions in Eckernförde (see picture a) the discharge (see picture b) was in compliance with D2 regulations in regard to plankton species.
Ballast water management will be a topic of debate at the Asian Tanker Conference in Singapore in February 2019.
