BIMCO has partnered with marine fuel management advisory company, Veritas Petroleum Services (VPS) to publish a bunker alert service for BIMCO’s 1,900 members
VPS publishes regular bunker alerts based entirely on fuel samples. The bunker samples are analysed by VPS when a short-term quality issue is identified in a specific port or region. The alerts are not intended to be an evaluation of overall bunker quality in the port or area concerned but instead highlight a specific parameter within the fuel which has raised a quality issue.
VPS’ circulation of its bunker alerts was previously limited to the company’s clients, but BIMCO members will now be permitted to access the information. The alerts are available as of 3 April 2020 on BIMCO’s website.
BIMCO members will be notified when a new VPS Bunker Alert is available by signing up for environment notifications on the BIMCO website. The information provided in each bunker alert is private and confidential and intended only for members, a statement from the group said.
In March, BIMCO, Intertanko, Intercargo and ICS partnered to identify fuel quality issues following the onset of IMO’s sulphur cap with the purpose of using the data gathered for future submissions to IMO.
The association is also expected to publish the BIMCO LNG Bunkering Contract in the coming months, with the intention to standardising bunkering terms and conditions as LNG bunkering options continue to grow.
