Blackstone reportedly eyeing sale of Beacon Offshore Energy

US-headquartered global asset investor Blackstone is reportedly looking to sell US-based Beacon Offshore Energy for more than US$5Bn.

Bloomberg and Reuters have reported that talks are underway regarding the sale, with Bloomberg reporting that Blackstone has begun initial discussions with investment banks on a potential initial public offering (IPO) that could take place in the first financial quarter of 2026.

In mid-January 2026, Houston, Texas-based Beacon Offshore Energy said it had commenced oil and natural gas production in December 2025 at a well in the Zephyrus field in the US Gulf.

The Miocene-aged development is located in Mississippi Canyon Block 759, approximately 209 km southeast of New Orleans, Louisiana, in water depths ranging from 945-1,100 m. 

The Zephyrus discovery well, drilled by Beacon in 2023, found high-quality oil in the Middle Miocene Cris-aged M2 sand. Beacon and its partners worked with Shell Offshore to connect the Zephyrus field to the existing West Boreas subsea infrastructure operated by Shell, for further processing on the Shell-operated Olympus production platform in the Mars Corridor.

"This efficient infrastructure-led development resulted in reduced emissions, lower development costs, and shortened time to first oil and was further made possible by incorporating a high-integrity pressure protection system into the 14-km Zephyrus subsea infrastructure," Beacon Offshore said in a statement on the find.

In addition, Beacon successfully drilled a second well in the Zephyrus field, reaching a total measured depth of 8,000 m. This well encountered 35 m of pay, including in the M2 sand currently producing in the first Zephyrus well and two additional high-quality Miocene sands.

Beacon said it is currently conducting completion operations and expects to commence production from the second Zephyrus well by the end of Q1 2026.
