Denmark-based Bladt Industries, which specialises in fabricating foundations and substations for offshore wind, has reached agreement with US-based Burns & McDonnell, an engineering, construction and fabrication company, to source, fabricate, produce and assemble steel, concrete and electrical components for offshore wind projects
Bladt Industries chief executive Anders Søe-Jensen said, “Burns & McDonnell is recognised as an industry leader in the US transmission and power delivery markets and has the ability to deliver projects in the US.
“Combined with Bladt’s long track record and position in the green energy transition, our alliance can offer a unique solution to offshore wind developers in the US offshore wind market.”
Burns & McDonnell chief executive Ray Kowalik said, “Our firm has supported critical infrastructure projects for more than 100 years. We are committed to supporting offshore wind projects that will help provide efficient, sustainable energy for years to come.
“Through our alliance with Bladt we can provide offshore wind developers with a reliable US supply chain with support and experience from an industry leader in the European market.”
AZCO, a construction contractor and steel fabricator that is part of the Burns & McDonnell group will provide on-site production and assembly services as well as steel fabrication capabilities for the alliance.
Bladt and Burns & McDonnell said they are working with state officials, developers, trade organisations, fabricators and contractors to build the supply chain needed to support the offshore wind market in the US. This includes the evaluation and pre-qualification of local fabricators and suppliers throughout the northeast and mid-Atlantic regions.
