A British company that is part of the TFKable Group, has signed a contract with Vattenfall for the inter-array cables for the Kriegers Flak offshore windfarm in Denmark.
JDR Cables will manufacture more than 170 km of aluminium core inter-array cables and a range of termination accessories.
The cable will be assembled at JDR’s Hartlepool facility, with project completion expected in 2021.
The 33kV cables will be installed on the windfarm, which is 15 km east of the Danish coast in the southern part of the Baltic. The cables will connect a total of 72 turbines, each of 8.4 MW, giving the windfarm an installed capacity of 605 MW.
Vattenfall won the tender to develop the project at what was at the time the lowest price to date for an offshore windfarm, €0.049 Euros per kWh.
Vattenfall took a final investment decision for Kriegers Flak offshore windfarm in December 2018. The project will significantly increase the company’s offshore wind capacity.
