Brunvoll in Norway has selected to supply a complete propulsion and manoeuvring system for a new cable-layer for Dutch contractor Van Oord
The vessel is to be built at Vard Brattvåg in Norway and is due to enter operation in 2023. It is being designed by Vard Design in Ålesund and will work mainly in the offshore wind market.
As previously highlighted by OWJ, the Vard 9 02 vessel will be an especially environmentally friendly unit, with technology to reduce emissions while operational and when in port. It will be capable of operating its engines on biofuels and will have a large battery pack.
Brunvoll’s scope of supply consists of two tunnel thrusters, each of 2,100 kW, a combined retractable azimuth/tunnel thruster of 1,500 kW, and two azimuth propulsion thrusters with propellers in nozzles, each of 2,500 kW.
“With this package of propulsion and manoeuvring equipment, the 130-m vessel will be able to operate and maintain its position even in extreme weather conditions,” said Brunvoll.
