Bureau Veritas has established the VeriFuel Hellenic Technical Committee, where companies can voice concerns and propose solutions in regard to marine fuels and lubricants
The VeriFuel Hellenic Technical Committee, based in Greece, comprises of leading Greek shipping companies represented by senior managers.
Bureau Veritas business development manager Bill Stamatopoulos said “we are delighted to be the first fuel testing services provider to have a technical committee focusing on fuels. With the IMO 2020 sulphur regulations in place and very low sulphur fuels (VLSFO) and exhaust gas cleaning systems already in use, the marine fuel industry navigates into a new, challenging environment; our committee could not be more topical.”
There have been industry worries over instability in VLSFOs. In May 2019, VeriFuel global technical manager Charlotte Røjgaard said "There is a risk of experiencing compatibility issues today and there will be a risk of compatibility issues after 2020." VeriFuel has previously urged the bunker industry to improve transparency and co-operation to tackle the challenges in light of fuel quality concerns. VeriFuel is Bureau Veritas’ marine fuel service.
The inauguration and first VeriFuel Hellenic Technical Committee meeting will be held in Piraeus, Greece on 5 March 2020.
