Ecochlor has followed its announcement of a regional sales office in Japan with a similar venture in South Korea. It has appointed DongJu (DJ) Cho, who has more than 30 years of experience working in the South Korean shipbuilding and shipping industry, as regional business development manager.
Mr Cho has a long career in the shipbuilding industry which includes stints as a system engineer followed by senior ship sales and engineering department manager for shipyards. More recently he has had positions as sales director and project manager with Wilhelmsen, Hamworthy (Wärtsilä), Hach & Trojan, OceanSaver and Coldharbour.
Ecochlor felt his experience and proven ability to clarify any technical issues for shipowners and their representatives during sales meetings will be an added asset when owners make crucial decisions regarding equipment choices.
Mr Cho said “I think it’s very important to meet each and every one of my customer’s level of satisfaction. With Ecochlor I can provide my clients with a ballast water management system that has decades of proven reliability and easy operation. Finding the best solution for my clients, as well as their positive feedback after the sale, brings me great happiness.”
Ecochlor’s vice president of business development, Andrew Marshall, pointed out that having a strong local presence in the South Korean maritime market is important for Ecochlor as its ballast water management system (BWMS) is particularly well suited for LNG vessels. The increase in LNG and other newbuild orders in South Korean shipyards will play an important part in Ecochlor’s overall corporate development.
Mr Marshall said “Mr Cho will bring our efforts in Korea to a whole new level as we embrace this phase of our growth as a company. We will be working closely with the South Korean shipyards as well as the vessel shipowners and with Mr Cho as our representative in South Korea, we will be ideally positioned to co-ordinate and support their ballast water compliance efforts. I look forward to having him as a resource in the area along with the insight of the region that he will bring to our team.”
