Chevron Shipping Co is adopting smart shipping services to optimise voyages, improve fleet management and reduce fuel costs. The shipping arm of the US-based oil major has selected C-Map to supply a cloud-based program for fleet management and route optimisation.
C-Map’s Integrated Maritime Suite (IMS) will be implemented on board crude tankers, product tankers and LNG carriers operated by Chevron and in its onshore fleet management offices.
This uses algorithms and customised ship performance models to provide advice on optimising voyages.
“IMS enables users to optimise routes to get the fastest arrival times, while minimising costs and bunker consumption and maximising safety,” said C-Map.
Chevron will use IMS and C-Map’s FleetManager web-based service to track performance of its tankers and gas carriers and to improve operational and strategic decision-making.
C-Map will provide shore-based routeing and voyage optimisation services, technical support and training. Chevron will be able to use Admiralty electronic navigational charts and digital publications along with C-Map’s Pro+ charts, and UpdateWizard for worldwide chart coverage on ECDIS on board its ships.
C-Map claims to have the world’s largest marine navigation digital chart database and said its data and software solutions are used by more than 80% of the world’s hydrographic offices.
C-Map was appointed this year by the United Kingdom Hydrographic Office as an official Admiralty digital distributor and electronic navigational chart service provider.
