Chinese owner bags ‘healthy’ profit on sale of 23-year-old AHTS

China Sunrise has reportedly sold Olympic Pegasus, a 23-year-old multi-functional anchor handling tug supply (AHTS) vessel, to an American owner for more than threefold its original purchase price.

The Chinese owner purchased the 2002-built vessel for “less than US$3M” according to Fearnley Offshore Supply. The shipbroker said the Ulstein A101 design AHTS was sold by China Sunrise to US-based Stabbert Maritime at a price that has “increased towards US$10M, suggesting a healthy profit for the Chinese owner.” The vessel was reportedly sold into China in 2022.

Originally ordered by Olympic Shipping as part of a two-vessel series, the AHTS was built in Norway by Ulstein Verft.

The 3,620-dwt vessel has a length of 82 m, beam of 20 m, draught of around 8 m and a deck area of 640 m².

As of 15 July, the vessel was moored near Vung Tau in Vietnam, according to ship location service Marine Traffic.
