A partnership between two satellite communications companies will deliver VSAT plus an L-band back-up to more maritime sectors.
ITC Global and Thuraya Telecommunications, a subsidiary of Al Yah Satellite Communications, have joined forces to deliver Ku-band VSAT and L-band in one integrated solution.
They will jointly provide Thuraya VSAT+ and value-added solutions for the maritime industry through a network of distributors. This brings more competition to established VSAT providers.
These services will include cyber security, voice communications, file compression, email and data transmissions for vessel monitoring and position reporting.
ITC Global will provide Ku-band connectivity through its links with parent company, Panasonic Avionics Corp, which has built a VSAT network through agreements with various satellite operators for aviation, maritime and offshore markets. Thuraya provides L-band through its constellation of satellites.
“VSAT+ meets the end-users' needs by offering an integrated solution that combines reliability, resilience and high-bandwidth speed,” said Thuraya chief commercial officer Shawkat Ahmed. “We are partnering with experienced master distributors, creating revenue opportunities throughout the supply chain, reducing overheads and providing flexible options for customers.”
Thuraya's VSAT will be used for condition-based maintenance, e-training, downloading e-publications, enterprise resource planning and content for crew welfare.
Mr Ahmed said VSAT+ is applicable to all vessel types and maritime budgets. It comes with a fixed-price package and higher capacity, global coverage and reliability.
