Columbia Shipmanagement selected specialised online training covering ECDIS competency assurance as it continues its digital navigation transformation.
This online training package is provided by eMaritime Training, part of UK-based ECDIS Ltd. It’s ECDIS Competency Assurance Training provides shipmanagers assurance that seafarers are competent in using ECDIS for navigating ships safely. It includes modules crew can use to prepare for port state control inspections.
Columbia Shipmanagement is installing online and offline versions of the training on its ships for seafarers to complete in their own time. Crewing and training manager Captain Fradi explains this training package provides further information for its seafarers and provides managers with more assurance.
“During our safe transition to digital navigation, we complete as much training as possible to support our officers, from generic, to type-specific and familiarisation and even further with this competency assurance package,” Capt Fradi says. “It allows crews to gain additional training and certification anywhere at any time.”
The program includes training and testing on all port state control inspectors' questions and demonstrates how it can increase standards by consolidating ECDIS training in one place.
Columbia Shipmanagement has become a leader in digitalisating fleet management activities. It has worked with software group Lufthansa Industry Solutions to develop advanced IT and programs for ship performance monitoring, fleet management and logistics planning.
Competence training will be one of the key topics of discussion this week at Riviera Maritime Media's European Dynamic Positioning Conference, which will be held on tomorrow, 5 February in London.
